Association Responsibilities

Long Lake Shores Association was originally incorporated in 1958. Its purpose is to maintain and develop common areas for the benefit and convenience of the residents of the Long Lake shores subdivision. Annual dues are collected in the amount of $200.00 each year for funds to carry out this purpose. An annual meeting is held each spring to elect officers and review the year’s activities.

Boat Launch

Lake access via our private boat launch is available to all residents who are up to date with their annual dues of $400.00. The launch is located on Bayou Drive at the out-lot. The combination number to the lock which secures the gate can be obtained from any board member.

Lake Boating and Water Quality

Upper Long Lake is a private, all sports lake. The Upper Long Lake Association Board consists of representatives from each subdivision bordering the lake. It monitors water quality and recreational use of the lake. It, also, serves as an advocate for the Long Lake Shores Association and the other neighborhood associations with issues involving Bloomfield Township and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Water level and quality are subject to annual weather conditions. Questions may be directed to the current lake board representatives.

Environmental Issues

Residents are encouraged to use non-phosphorous lawn maintenance material, as phosphates from groundwater run-off destroy water quality. Greenbells and seawalls between lawns and water provide an excellent filtering system for keeping our water clean. Fallen leaves, tree limbs and refuse in the canal and lake deter water flow and, in some instances, can be dangerous to boaters. The association provides limited maintenance of canal water. Canal residents are requested to clear fallen tree limbs and any debris from their canal frontage.

Lake Safety

To promote safe and responsible boating on our lake, LLSA members have received in 2004 a package of water safety materials. The association is urging all members to familiarize themselves with these safety guidelines. It is everyone’s responsibility to know and abide by the state laws and common courtesy. It is especially important to review these laws and recommendations with beginning boaters and your guests.

The key documents distributed for this purpose are “Water Safety on Upper Long Lake” written by the Safety Committee of Upper Long Lake, the State of Michigan Law regarding Waters Sports and Personal Watercraft Rules with special notice to Upper Long Lake Water Skiers from the Lake Board, and the Upper Long Lake Safety Map. Please keep these documents on hand to refer to as needed. If you are in need of these documents please contact a board member.

Oakland County Marine Division Sheriff’s Dispatch number is included in the front of this directory for on the water events and emergencies.

As a courtesy to neighbors, please observe State Laws prohibiting operation of a personal watercraft during the period that begins one hour before sunset and ends at 8 a.m.

Please make other boaters aware of safety laws and regulations as needed to promote a safe and enjoyable boating season this summer.
